1. Word Association
According to Google, "word association" is defined as "the spontaneous and unreflective production of other words in response to a given word, as a game, a prompt to creative thought or memory, or a technique in psychiatric evaluation"
Here is how it works, somebody says a word and you write down whatever you think of. You don't judge the thought, it is just the first idea that comes to mind.
Below is a list of words, your teacher will read to you. As you hear each word, write/draw the first thing that comes to your mind.
This becomes a list/source of ideas for you to create an abstract work of art.
2. Transformation in Literature
Artists are people who find inspiration in other art forms like music and drama. I am sure we have all heard a piece of music that is profound and deeply meaningful. Literature can do the same thing for artists. Artists read and they read for inspiration. We could look at literary example of transformation for motivation.
In reality, all literature could follow the theme of 'transformation'. Any dynamic character is transformed from who the character was at the beginning of the story to the end of the story. However, there are some notable pieces of literature that could be considered stories about transformation.
I found this list on a website called "Top 10 Metamorphses in Literature"
10. Alice in Wonderland
9. Lamia
8. Traditional Beauty and the Beast
7. The Once and Future King
6. The Odyssey - especially the encounter with Circe
