1. Patterns are created by the repetition of a line or a shape. They can be used as a Principle of Design (repetition) and transform an regular looking image into something very interesting.

So, here is a pen drawing I am working on. You can see that the image of the face is good, but the zentangled hair is what makes this image interesting (or will when I am done).
